Head of Business Development & Strategy
Who We Are
ALLOX is a spin-off of the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) and draws on the expertise and technology developed in the lab of Ben Lehner. The company was born out of the realisation that combining systematic mutagenesis, high-throughput phenotyping and biophysical modelling has the potential to revolutionise drug development but also transform biotechnology in general. We are located in an incubation space, including a recently expanded laboratory, in the Barcelona Science Park (surrounded by 6 research institutes and over 70 different companies), and our immediate goal is to identify allosteric switches in all proteins and then leverage this unprecedented resource to rapidly develop novel medicines to treat human diseases. Our long-term vision is to become a leader in programmable biology, building the next generation of tools to predict, design and engineer new protein functions. We believe in a future where humanity will be able to harness the power of biology to solve our most pressing issues. We are expanding our interdisciplinary team with highly motivated individuals who are excited by this bold vision, share our sense of urgency, but are not willing to compromise on integrity. At ALLOX the success of our revolutionary scientific approach is as important to us as our mission to create a healthy, honest and respectful culture, both internally and with our partners.

Who You Are
Our platform is already generating unique datasets, advancing internal first-in-class drug discovery programs, and attracting interest from global pharmaceutical companies. We are now looking for our first Head of Business Development & Strategy to help shape how ALLOX grows–from strategic partnerships and fundraising to competitive intelligence and company strategy.
This is not a traditional business development position. We’re looking for someone who wants to help build a company, not simply negotiate transactions.
Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll become one of ALLOX’s business leaders, working across strategic partnerships, fundraising, competitive intelligence and corporate strategy. You’ll spend time identifying partnership opportunities with pharma and techbio companies, supporting investor discussions, preparing Board materials, analyzing industry trends and helping shape the long-term direction of the company.
If you’re excited by variety, ownership and building something exceptional from an early stage, we’d love to meet you.
What You'll Do
Strategic partnerships
- Identify, originate and execute strategic collaborations with pharma, biotech and technology partners.
- Lead partnership discussions from first introduction through negotiation and execution.
- Build long-term relationships across the global biotech ecosystem.
Company strategy
- Help shape ALLOX’s value proposition and commercial strategy alongside the CEO.
- Support fundraising activities, investor materials and due diligence.
- Prepare strategic analyses for executive and Board discussions.
- Contribute to broader corporate development initiatives such as non-dilutive funding and other strategic alliances.
Business intelligence
- Build ALLOX’s competitive intelligence capabilities.
- Monitor technology, investment and partnership trends across biotech, techbio and AI landscapes.
- Turn information into strategic recommendations that help guide company decisions.
Communication, Teamwork and Culture
- Establish clear communication channels with the different working teams.
- Keep stakeholders informed about workload, progress, results and innovations.
- Exemplify best practices and contribute to a productive and inclusive working environment.
Job & Technical Competencies Requirements
- 3+ years of business development, licensing or corporate development/consulting experience within biopharma, biotech, or a techbio/platform company.
- Existing network of relevant contacts within pharma BD/licensing, biotech/techbio and VCs.
- Demonstrated track record of sourcing, negotiating and closing partnerships, licensing deals, or collaboration agreements with pharma and/or biotech companies.
- Strong scientific literacy and the ability to communicate complex science commercially.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent deck-building skills;
- Fluent in representing the company externally and shaping a compelling narrative.
- Comfortable operating as the senior-most BD voice in the company, with direct accountability to the CEO and Board on partnering and BD strategy.
- Excellent strategic judgement and problem-solving abilities.
- Fluent English.
- Experience working in fast-moving, entrepreneurial environments where wearing multiple hats is the norm.
- Previous experience in management consulting, venture capital or equity research.
- Exposure to AI-enabled drug discovery, computational biology or platform technologies.
- Familiarity with allosteric drug discovery, protein engineering, deep mutational scanning.
- Experience supporting Board meetings and executive leadership.
Compensation & Benefits
To determine salary range, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate’s skills, education and experience, the level at which they are actually hired, market demand, business needs, and internal parity. We may also adjust this range in the future based on market data.
This role is eligible for our meaningful early-stage equity package (subject to the terms of those plans and associated policies).
In addition, ALLOX also provides our employees:
- 25 days paid annual leave + National & local public holidays + 3 extra days for personal matters
- Yearly personal training & conference budget
- Reduced Friday schedule, year-round
- An extra day off on your birthday
- If you're sick, focus on getting better: no doctor's note needed for the first two days
- Regular team offsites, monthly lunches and a well-stocked snack cabinet
And all the classic Spanish benefits: public healthcare, paid sick leave, 19 weeks paid birth and childcare leave.
Let’s make programmable biology a reality
The startup nature of ALLOX provides multiple growth opportunities into other areas of the company. As one of the early employees at ALLOX, your work will have a direct impact on the foundation of a groundbreaking new approach to biotechnology.
Why this role is different
Unlike most business development roles, this position offers broad exposure across company building. You’ll work directly with the CEO on topics ranging from strategic partnerships and fundraising to Board discussions, competitive intelligence and corporate strategy. This role is designed for someone who wants to maximise their impact, not specialise further. As ALLOX grows, this role is expected to evolve into a senior leadership position, with the opportunity to grow into VP Business Development and ultimately Chief Business Officer.
Application Process
Apply for this job here. The closing date for applications is August 31th, 2026. We encourage applicants to submit their application at the earliest opportunity as the closing date may be brought forward if a high volume of applications are received.
